Skype Testbed Traces

In order to characterize Skype calls traffic, we made up a testbed in laboratory, compounded by two hosts running Windows XP, connected to internet through a router. In these conditions, several sintetic traces have been generated, according to characterize Skype calls through their vocal codecs. Only most significant traces are available in gzip format.

Traces from Real Internet Traffic

The following traces contain network traffic captured on main link of Politecnico di Torino. People that have access to our campus link are students, researchers, professors and administration staff.

Starting from a 96-hours trace captured on our campus main link, Tstat was successfully able to classify traffic packets generated by the most popular voice over Internet application, called Skype. Classification of Skype's calls has been possible thanks to research activities described into "Revealing skype traffic: when randomness plays with you". For better usage, Skype's connections classified by Tstat, are separated into more traces, depending on kind of traffic (End-to-End calls, SkypeOut calls, signaling connections) and L4-protocol used. As previously, in order to respect privacy, IP addresses have been anonymized.
